Lagos: Buhari, Ambode asked to establish Ministry for Senior Citizens

A non-government organisation Charity Organisation for the Welfare of Aged People COWAP has called on Buhari administration to establish a Ministry to care for the aged their welfare.

Speaking at a fitness walk in Lagos Island tagged “Elderly Walk for Life and Fitness Exercise” organized by COWAP in collaboration with Guaranty Trust Bank GTB recently, founder of the group Olusola Esan stressed:

“Our call on President Muhammadu Buhari led administration and all the 36 State governors is to establish a Ministry where issues of  Elderly care such as Medical, Welfare, pension matters and payments will be addressed.”

Adding that :”elderly in most society hardly get deserved attention from government. But amid the neglect, we vowed to take the health and the Welfare of  Senior Citizens in Nigeria as our responsibility.”

In the same vein, Veteran Footfall Coach Tunde Disu urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State to encourage senior citizens in Lagos to continually engage in fitness exercises.

“If Governor Ambode being a sport enthusiast can distinguished himself by sponsoring youthful events like the Lagos Fiesta and the Lagos Marathon race, I will strongly urged the amiable governor to extend his kind gesture towards the Elderly in the state by sponsoring laudable initiative of COWAP that will keep Senior Citizens fits and refresh,” Disu said.
