Two policemen apprehend for oil theft

Two mobile policemen were weekend arrested in Bayelsa State by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering. 

It was gathered that the suspects were three but one of them fled the scene abandoning a vehicle loaded with the stolen petroleum product and his service identity card. 

Though the identities of the policemen involved in the illegal bunkering were reportedly not disclosed, they were said to have been ‎apprehended on Friday at about 5:30pm along Otuasega – Okaki Road in Ogbia council area of Bayelsa State.

 Over 412 litres of suspected illegally-refined Automative Gas Oil (AGO) were reportedly recovered from them. A special squad of anti-illegal bunkering team of NSCDC were said to have conveyed the suspects and their stolen products to the headquarters of the security outfit in Yenagoa. 

Attempt to reach the state Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. Desmond ‎Agu proved abortive but a top security source confirmed the arrest. ‎ The source said, “A team of civil defence operatives intercepted them along the Otuasega road, Ogbia Local Government Area. 

They were caught with about 412 litres of adulterated petroleum product. “They were three but one of them ran away leaving behind the products and his service ID card. They are currently being detained at the NSCDC headquarters in Yenagoa.” Contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, said such incident had not been reported to the command.
